I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduation from Whitefish Bay High School, I attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. I majored in English and received an award for my honors thesis on the fiction of Virginia Woolf. I spent several years working in the publishing industry (Cornell University Press) and in advertising (Boston Store). Having long considered law school, I finally took the plunge in 1982 at the University of Wisconsin Law School. During law school, I clerked at the Wisconsin Justice Department researching and writing legal memoranda on various topics. I also served in student government during law school.
Upon graduation, I worked as an associate Godfrey, Pfeil and Neshek in Elkhorn and served as a prosecutor (and tried cases) for several villages in the area. I then spent three years as a litigation associate at Michael, Best and Friedrich. Subsequently, I worked at Cook and Franke in Milwaukee, and became a shareholder. I am currently involved in toxic tort litigation at Crivello Carlson. I have successfully litigated a number of summary judgment motions in toxic tort cases. I am also involved in commercial enviironmental litigation. I also have served on several occasions on the faculty for UW Madison Law School's General Practice/Lawyering Skills Course.
I am married and have a 21-year old daughter who attends Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. My interests include, politics, reading, movies and hiking.
